ALL ABOUT THERAPY
What to Expect
Therapy sessions are confidential. This means that the information discussed is kept between you and your therapist. If however it is felt there is a risk of harm either to you or anyone else then this will take priority over confidentiality, meaning that it will be broken. Your therapist will go through a plan with you, outlining the approach therapy will take and what this will involve. Sessions are held on a weekly basis and run for an hour or an 90 minutes for EMDR.
EMDR Stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. This treatment is recognised by NICE and the World Health Organisation for treatment of Trauma. By focusing attention on the limbic system through eye movements, the trauma is processed and moved to ‘memory storage’ where it produces much less distress symptoms and is separated from the body’s arousal system.EMDR Stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. ABOUT THE THERAPIST
My name is Jane and I am a CBT and EMDR therapist based in St Annes. I have over 15 years experience and am accredited with the British Association for Behavioural and Counselling Psychotherapists (BABCP). I spent many years working for The Priory before leaving to pursue a role as a Military Veterans therapist in the NHS alongside my private practice.
About CBT
CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. This form of therapy lis recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Intervention (NICE) and the World Health Organisation(WHO). CBT looks at how you have learnt to process information and how that makes you feel and behave. This can cause unhelpful patterns in our lives, affecting life choices, relationships and mood. By identifying and resetting these patterns, people can gain control of their lives. Whilst many therapists have undertaken brief training in this approach and offer it as a service, it is only really affective if carried out by a therapist who has undertaken several years of training and has reached accreditation level.
CBT can help with a wide spectrum of mental health disorders including:
Addictions
Anxiety Disorders
Bereavement
Change management
Depression
Eating Disorders
Emotional management issues
Mood disorders
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Phobias
Perfectionism
Self Esteem
Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
